Allergies

Allergies can have a significant impact on our way of life and stop us doing things. People can be allergic to practically anything, but some of the most common substances are grass and tree pollen (hayfever), food allergy (typically fruits, shellfish and nuts), dust mites and animal dander (tiny flakes of skin or hair). They can range from causing mild irritation to being potentially fatal.

An allergy occurs when the immune system overreacts to a perceived threat rather than an actual one. The result is the release of histamine that produces the inflammation, runny nose, itching etc. associated with allergies. Sometimes allergies can be controlled by anti-histamines, but the side effects and resistance can make them undesirable. While many people would simply prefer a drug-free approach.

The immune system is controlled by the unconscious mind – it can learn to respond to danger, but it can also relearn that something is not dangerous. In this way, NLP allergy intervention techniques can be used to re-educate the immune system to recognise that a substance is benign. Sometimes, it may also be necessary to explore certain beliefs around an allergy, before carrying out an intervention technique.

Allergies should be treated with caution and in some cases it may be advisable to carry out the technique in the presence of your GP.
