Important Things to Know (T&C’s)

Working with an NLP Practitioner and Coach can be an extremely rewarding experience. Coaching is a powerful partnership that provides an open and honest structure, feedback, and support. By working with a coach, you make a commitment to yourself and to the things you really want, which can help to keep you motivated, focused and on track. The following aims to outline some useful information you may need to know at the outset.

I am a certified NLP Master Practitioner & Life Coach and member of ANLP (Association of Neuro Linguistic Programming) with recognised Gold Professional Standards and subscribe to its code of conduct and ethics. I have an Enhanced DBS certificate, keep up to date with Safeguarding and have professional insurance. Please feel free to ask to see any certification.

When working with a coach or indeed any kind of therapist it is important you choose someone to work with who you feel you can trust. It is said that 45% of the success of the work is dependent on your rapport with the coach – so it is important to choose someone you feel comfortable with for the best outcome.

Outcome Focused

With NLP we are focused on moving you towards what you want, and the things you want for you and your life. To do this it may be necessary to clear obstacles, things from the past, as well as taking you forwards. It is important to share, openly and honestly the things you want and would like from sessions and anything that will assist you in achieving your goals and clearing obstacles.

To enable me to support you in the best possible way, it is important that you disclose anything which may be important (e.g., health issues, state of mind, previous support, medication). I will ask you about this openly during your initial session.

Confidentiality

I understand the importance of privacy and will maintain the confidentiality of information shared and the content of our sessions, unless the Law requires disclosure or I believe that by not doing so could endanger me or other people, or unless you give me written permission to do so. I will keep notes of our sessions and protect them in line with current data protection.

Should I need to contact you, I will use your preferred contact details (please advise). As a matter of course I tend to avoid leaving a message with another person or on an answerphone but if this is of particular importance, please do bring this to my attention.

GP Referrals

If you have been referred to me by your GP, on their request I will let them know I am working with you for their records. This demonstrates you are taking positive action towards resolving issues. Any communication contains top level information only (not specific detail). If you would prefer me not to do this, please let me know.

Record Keeping

I will keep notes of our sessions as mentioned above. Records will be kept for at least 7 years following the last session, or, in the case of children, 7 years after the age of 18.

Personal Data

I will also keep personal information such as your name, address, age and contact details. If you have been referred by a GP, this may be shared with them, but otherwise will be kept confidential.

If you have subscribed to my newsletters, to keep up to date with news, tips and workshop dates, this information will also be kept confidential. At times, approved third parties may have access to personal information (e.g., computer services or emergency personnel).

Cancellation/Postponement

I kindly request 48 hours’ notice to cancel or postpone a session, otherwise full payment will be due. In the event, I should ever need to cancel a session at short notice (within 48 hours), I will make no charge for your next session (the one we need to rearrange). This excludes emergencies for both of us.

Working Online / Telephone

If we are working online (via Zoom) or by telephone, it is important that you are in a place where you can feel safe and can talk openly and be undisturbed.

Working with Children

I work with children with their parent’s consent, and I treat the child as my client. It is important that the child has a safe place to express themselves and that the child wants to make a change and is openly, willing to come to sessions. Some children might like their parents to be present and some not. Sometimes it is a mix (initially they like you to be there but afterwards prefer to be unaccompanied). If I am just working with the child, it may be that you are asked to sit back and be an observer, other times you might be involved. I tailor my approach around what we are trying to achieve. I let both parent and child know that the content of a session is confidential.

When children are actively involved in the process of dealing with matters that are important to them it can be very empowering. After a session it is important that parents avoid asking what was said, to respect the child’s privacy – otherwise this could undo the work or some of it. I know this can be hard but l like to reassure parents that I will share with you anything you might need to know but always with the child’s consent. However, there may be times when I am obliged by law to disclose information to other parties, if I feel that the child may be at risk to themselves or others. Again, I will always seek to keep the child informed.

Dogs/Animals

My animals are part of my environment and practice and can greatly contribute to a session. They are there to help you feel relaxed, which is important to the work and can also help pick up on emotional energies which you may not realise. I am very relaxed with my animals, so you might have a dog sitting by you or a cat arrive on your lap. If you are nervous or worried about any of these, please let me know.

Anchoring

NLP uses anchoring – and at times, I might ask you if it is ok to anchor you which sometimes involves touching your shoulder or arm. I will always seek your permission first, and the same applies to children.

Recommendations

At times I may make a recommendation for something or someone – please know, I will not receive any commissions or financial incentives and if this ever does arise it will be disclosed.

Session Times

Sessions are an hour unless otherwise arranged, but sometimes if we are in the middle of something we may run over a bit. For the first session, I recommend allowing an hour and a half.

Fees

My fees will have been confirmed to you by email and are payable following a session unless otherwise agreed. Fees can be paid via Bank Transfer (sort code 08 92 86 Account 16 08 73 50) or by cash. Should you require a receipt, please let me know, I issue these at the end of the month.

Feedback

If you ever have any feedback for me or would like to ask, or request anything, please do let me know. I am committed to working with you in the best way possible.

Case Studies/Testimonials

If at the end of the work, or sometime in the future you would like to provide a testimonial, these are gratefully received. And if you are interested in your work with me forming the basis of a case study, please do let me know. These will be anonymous and can be immensely helpful in supporting others to make change. Existing case studies, which are all approved can be viewed on www.anlp.org/members/yvonne-fernando (My Professional Member’s Association). They are written up by me, in collaboration with you, and approved by you, and ANLP.
